- The Plight of Eastham Ponds - It has been increasingly clear that in Eastham, as elsewhere, we are loving our ponds to death! Several of the biggest and some of the smallest are choking in weeds and algae. Swimmers have stopped swimming at some, and kayakers and canoe-ers are finding their paddles clogged with algae. Fishermen, likewise, are finding their lines fouled.
The town has hired a Pond Consultant to help plan for pond protection and remediation. The consultant will report findings to the Committee and others on Dec. 3, 10 a.m. at the Town Hall. The Committee hopes to bring an Article to the Town Meeting in May 2012 to impact the ponds most in need.
Given the importance of the ponds to our tourism economy and to our real estate values, the Pond Committee hopes members of the EPRTA will come to the meeting and make their ideas known. Again, the meeting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10:00 AM at the Town Hall. Make your voice heard.
Contact Sandy Bayne: sandybayne@comcast.net, or 508 255 5200.
If you will be unable to attend, your e-mail and pond pictures are welcome. Send them to: jcrowley@eastham-ma.gov.
- Fire Department Encourages Lock Boxes The Eastham Fire Department encourages part-time residents to consider installing a Lock Box on the outside of their homes. In case of a fire or a 911 emergency, Fire Department personnel can enter the home using the key from the Lock Box, thus avoiding the need to break down the front door. Only Fire Department personnel have access to the code to the Lock Box. If you would like to install a Lock Box, contact the Fire Department by telephone at 508-255-2324 or by fax to 508-240-5932. A locksmith will install the box for a one-time $95.00 fee. Also, please make sure that your house number is clearly displayed in order to help Fire personnel identify the correct location in responding to an emergency.
- Annual Dues - In order for the Association to have its voice heard on issues that affect us all, EPRTA relies on the annual dues paid by members. The 2011 annual dues of $20.00 are due January 1. Please make check payable to "EPRTA" and mail to: EPRTA, PO Box 122, N. Eastham, MA 02651"
